Two weeks after construction was completed on Kirkwood
Mountain Club, one of main boilers exploded.
KMC claimed that the main gas pressure regulator installed by California
Hydronics caused the explosion by letting gas into the boiler at too high of a
pressure.
We inspected & test both an exemplar regulator and the
incident regulator and determined that they functioned properly when installed
properly. We also determined that the
actual origin of the explosion was not the boiler; instead it was in the
exhaust flue. Finally, we determined
that the variation in pressure to the boiler was in the control system between
the regulator and the boiler.
